Vocaloid Corner: MEIKO

What you're looking at is the very first Japanese custom vocal ever released for the VOCALOID engine family, as well as Crypton Future Media, Inc.'s first-produced digital idol.

MEIKO was released on November 2004, together with the original VOCALOID engine, preceding of almost two year KAITO, its male voice counterpart. Originally known under the placeholder name of HANAKO -most likely as part of the Japanese general placeholder name Yamada Hanako (山田花子)- her definitive name is based from the one of Meiko Haigo (拝郷 メイコ), the singer/songwriter who provided her voice for the Vocaloid in question. Despite not getting enough merchandise recognition in years from the company who created it, MEIKO is still a fan-favorite (reaching the 9th rank in overall popularity polls in 2014) who still has some following to this day, thanks to the updated MEIKO V3 engine which got released on February 2014.

Much like with KAITO, MEIKO happens to be yet another Vocaloid voice which doesn't have any solo performances in songs ported to the Taiko no Tatsujin franchise to this date.
